On Artist Brands

Twitter is a great tool to promote creations because tweets are short and to the point. I had the opportunity to select ten different artists/original content creators to analyze. The following artists have personally impacted my life, and I look forward to their content. Therefore, I feel analysis of their authenticity is not challenging.

The first artist I retweeted is probably my favorite, Nathan Sharp. His brand is a self produced musician and songwriter for anime, video game, and original music. Sharp uses Twitter in both a casual and promotional way. The casual tweets consist of jokes, advice, or interactive Q and A sessions. These tweets show his tangible and friendly personality. He is very authentic as he refers to his audience as "fam", stressing the love and lightheartedness he stands for. It is extremely easy to tell he is not fake, because he is consistent in all his promotional and casual tweets, as well as in the media content itself. Sharp uses pathos to appeal to his audience by calling them "fam".

Another artist I sought out was MatPat, and influential internet gamer, video content producer, and theorist. He represented the American gaming community in a digital summit held by the Pope in 2016. Similar to Sharp, MatPat uses twitter as a way to promote content he is in and post loving messages to fans. He is consistent, like Sharp, in his videos and tweets about his love for the fans. He stresses the need for love and understanding between people, therefore his sentimental tweets are nothing but authentic. His tweet is crafted in order to show his genuine happiness for his job by featuring a photo of him laughing and play fighting with a couch cushion on set. MatPat uses pathos to appeal to his audience by using a photo showing a good time, the audience will be inclined to watch because they also want to feel that emotion.

I decided to also feature the EDM artist "Mystery Skulls". Often a misleading name, there is only one member in the act, Luis Dubuc. Dubuc built "Mystery Skulls" from a few singles released on Tumblr, and quickly became famous. Due to his humble beginnings, he is a very personable man. Dubuc often retweets fan art and posts from fans on the official page. He also streams often and is eager to talk to fans and answer their questions. Therefore, his personality is genuinely friendly and personable. His tweets are very short and professional, almost as if he is nervous to express too much. He therefore uses ethos, an appeal to professionalism for the trust of the consumer.
